They say they love me,
Yet at times, respect feels distant.
They say they respect me,
Yet my passions often go unnoticed.
They say they value me,
Yet my presence is seldom acknowledged.
They say they understand me,
Yet my pauses and silences seem misunderstood.
They offer gifts,
Yet sometimes, a hidden expectation lingers.
They pamper me,
Yet often when they seek something in return.
They protect me fiercely,
Yet it feels more like caution than trust.
They neither see
The intelligence of my mind
Nor the beauty of my heart.
It is strange that they are my near and dear ones,
Yet it is true that not all relationships are exceptional.
